Synthesis
A. Students will be able to compose for particular audiences and purposes.
For this goal I chose to create a project that's purpose is to describe the aspects that make up a great athlete, and match each aspect with Bo Jackson and how he held each of the attributes. The audience is directed towards people that are interested in Bo Jackson and also athletics. My research essay on Bo Jackson gives a thorough explanation of the criteria that make a great athlete and examples from Bo's life where he displays them all.
B. Students will be able to compose using language and conventions appropriate to genre.
In this part of my project I composed a fictional interview. When you make an interview, you want the interviewer and the interviewee to sound realistic. To make the interview sound realistic you need to use good language and real situations so it actually sounds like Bo Jackson is getting an interview.
C. Students will be able to read, select, and use evidence critically to formulate and support arguments.
I believe I did a good job displaying this in my research essay. In my essay, I read what aspects make up a great athlete, and then pick several that seem the most relevant. I use Bo Jackson as an example because he has all of the criteria that make up a great athlete. I use example from Bo's life in which he displays each aspect while he played football and baseball in college and professionally.
D. Students will be able to interpret and compose in a variety of media and non/print genres.
In my project I created a timeline. The timeline is where I think I did the best job of working with a non/print genre. My timeline shows every important event that happened through out Bo's life thus far. It is all very well organized and composed. I never created something like this on the computer before this project and creating this timeline was beneficial.
E. Students will be able to discuss and apply appropriate writing processes both individually and in collaborative contexts.
In class, we were able to talk with our professor and have peer review with our colleagues about each of our genres. The advertisement I created was my first genre and also the best feedback I got out of all the genres. When I made my advertisement I thought it looked great at first. Then, I brought it to peer review and I had found out I had made it wrong and got the critique I needed to make it correct. Once I revised my advertisement it was one of my favorite genres to create.
