Me: So Bo, how did you get the nickname Bo if
your real name is Vincent Jackson?
Bo: My brother gave it to me as a kid because he said I was as wild and strong as a
wild boar. So he got the Bo out boar and it just stuck from
then.
Me: What does he mean when he
said you were wild as a child?
Bo: I grew up in a tough neighborhood where a lot of kids were older than me. The
older kids decided to pick me on me starting when I was about 6 and it didn’t
take me long to take a stand for myself.
Me: Are there any stories you remember as a child where you
retaliated?
Bo: Certainly, I remember
one time when I got in a fight with a kid who was teasing me. When he was
running away in the end, I picked up a brick, threw it over my fence, over the
neighbor’s house, and it connected with the boy’s head. I didn’t even know I hit
him since I couldn’t see where he was exactly when I threw it. I found out
several minutes later when I walked over and saw him on the
ground.
Me: Wow, I am guessing that’s
where the combination of the nickname Bo and the legacy of the athletic Bo
Jackson came from.
Bo: That’s just one
of the stories that built my nickname but that one always stuck out to me.
Me: When did you decide you wanted to
play sports?
Bo: I come from a family
of brothers that all loved sports, from the time I was young I knew I would be
into them as well since we always played backyard sports. But my confidence and
drive to go play came when I realized how gifted I was at such a young age and
how much bigger my build was than the kids my age.
Me: What sports did you play growing up throughout high school?
Bo: I tried all sports at a young age but once I got to
the competitive level I stuck with football, baseball, and track. I had a love
for both baseball and football and track events came easy.
Me: What do you mean they came easy?
Bo: I was always the fastest and strongest kid in my
school so events like the 100 meter and discus throwing attracted me. I could
throw the discus for great distance s without the proper spin and throw
technique.
Me: That’s incredible, was
there any other event you tried or competed in?
Bo: I taught myself how to pole vault in one day. The next day I entered a meet to
pole vault and won it all for the state of Alabama.
Me: So basically anything you try you succeed at?
Bo: When I was younger that’s how I felt, and now the talk around the legend Bo
Jackson makes it seem that way so I guess so.
Me: What do you do now to entertain yourself or to keep yourself
occupied?
Bo: I hunt, golf, and love to
cook.
Me: It’s simple; you do all types
of different sports activities and can even cook too. Thanks for taking the time
to do this interview Bo.
